According to gastroenterologists, pooping promotes relaxation via the vagus nerve, releases the feel-good neurotransmitter serotonin, and provides a physical sense of relief.
There’s even a term for it - “poo-phoria.”
Interestingly, both the vagus nerve and serotonin levels (or uptake) tie in to IBS, in ways that are not well understood.
And pain/discomfort with bowel movements is a primary symptom of IBS.
So do you experience poo-phoria?
Or do you fit the symptoms of IBS?
You are not alone.
