IBS news flash. ADHD linked to higher risk of IBS
Link between attention-deficit hyperactivity and intestinal disorders
ADHD is a common disorder among children and adults, characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.
ADHD has been associated with depression, anxiety, autism spectrum disorder, and learning disorders, as well as medical issues like obesity, asthma, and sleep disorders.
A new meta-analysis aimed to synthesize global data and assess whether ADHD is also linked to intestinal disorders.
The study found a significant positive association between ADHD and IBS.
The working theory is that ADHD may be linked to IBS through the gut-brain axis.
Interestingly, no clear associations were found between ADHD and other gastrointestinal conditions such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, or celiac disease.
And more about the brain-gut axis behind IBS…
You are not alone.
