IBS fast fact. Interstitial cystitis and IBS often overlap
IC affects the bladder and IBS impacts the bowels, but the conditions can cause similar symptoms
Interstitial cystitis and irritable bowel syndrome often coexist, with a significant overlap in symptoms and potential shared underlying mechanisms.
Both conditions can cause chronic pain and discomfort, with IC affecting the bladder and IBS impacting the bowel.
Common symptoms include abdominal pain, frequent urination, and changes in bowel habits (diarrhea, constipation, or both)
Individuals with IC are more likely to also have IBS, and vice versa. This suggests a possible systemic dysfunction or cross-sensitization between the bladder and bowel.

You are not alone.
