IBS deep dive! Ignored, dismissed, and minimized. The harmful consequences of IBS invalidation in health care
Color me impressed that doctors actually did this study....
A new systematic review examined the health care and psychological consequences of patient-reported symptom invalidation by clinicians prior to diagnosis.
Researchers found that patients experience a range of negative consequences when clinicians invalidate their symptoms.
Shocking.
And what kind of symptoms are we talking about here? Irritable Bowel Syndrome is one of the top disorders on their list.
Other disorders where patient-reported symptoms were commonly invalidated:
Endometriosis, fibromyalgia, lupus, vulvodynia.
Huh. I sense a pattern…
This is a helluva deep dive, so jump right in.
And more help for IBS…
You are not alone.
