Hi James - well, it's not great, it is a drug laxative, and it has side effects, and all laxatives can cause bowel dependency. But the good news is that it iss possible to transition off of laxatives, even after years of use. It's a slow and steady process, don't go cold turkey, but this can definitely work - see here https://www.helpforibs.com/news/getting-off-laxatives.asp
I have no idea. For me, it was about this particular doc having no curiosity and being totally dismissive. Like, “next”! I had a good one (who retired), and did a colonoscopy (as I’d never had one). He got rid of two polyps—thankfully, I hadn’t stuck with the first doc who had zero interest. So, it was more the doctor’s attitude (“oh, you have IBS? take miralax, stop wasting my time.”)
Boy has this happened to me for many years. Thank goodness I found Heather and her products!
And they say delightful things like, “some people just have to take miralax every day for their entire lives.” *I’ve never taken miralax.
I once had a doc tell me to take stool softeners daily for IBS when I had diarrhea! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Or throw something.
Or all three!
